I was standing inside the thing God promised

Friday Prayer: Inside the Double-Stacked Train

This past Friday we gathered for our weekly in-person prayer meeting at the Hollywood Heavenly Crusaders clubhouse in Franklin, Ohio—and honestly, it might have been one of my favorite nights of ministry ever. Our rotating Friday prayer meetings are all building toward Riverfront Revival, and HHC is all in with us.

A year ago, HHC didn’t even exist. Before that, the Lord began speaking through a series of dreams that birthed Riverfront Revival. In the first dream, I heard the Lord say, “Build Me an altar of prayer.” In the dreams that followed, I saw details unfold: I saw Jesse Bush—now one of HHC’s founders—as a seasoned evangelist, leading teams of evangelists. I saw the river itself. I watched a set of tracks emerge from the river, and on those tracks a double-stacked train carried a harvest that couldn’t be contained back to the house of God.

Fast forward to Riverfront Revival: on Friday night, as the altar call was given, the heavens opened and it began to pour. Literally speaking. The rain poured down on us. Half the crowd left. The other half flooded the altar. Among those who came forward was Jeff Koger, now another HHC founder. His life was radically changed that night, and today he’s leading the Hollywood Heavenly Crusaders.

Standing in that clubhouse on Friday, with the room packed to capacity by people who have been pulled from the fire, it hit me: I was standing inside the double-stacked train I saw in that dream.

God’s promises are true.
They don’t always look the way we thought they would.
They’re rarely on our timetable.

The prayer meeting at HHC didn’t look like a lot of “normal” prayer meetings I’ve been a part of—but it was beautiful. The room was filled with people who have been rescued from darkness, and they all embraced the call to pray.

I keep thinking: we need more believers like them.

Recently, I was in another revival setting. After the service, there was a prayer meeting and a fellowship gathering happening at the same time. Three people showed up for prayer. The fellowship space, though, was full—with a very well-churched crowd.

Given the choice, I’ll take the unchurched, pulled-from-the-fire crew who are willing to pray, every time. Those who are unwilling to take up the call to prayer, what is it they are even building?

This Past Week on VOR: Prayer, Costly Yes, and Ministering to the Lord

On last Monday’s episode of Voices of Revival (EP 154), I sat down with Ethan Robison and David Coffey, and the conversation kept circling back to prayer, the Word, and what it really means to minister to the Lord. Ethan shared about reading Acts in one sitting and doing New Testament “shreds”—consuming large portions of Scripture quickly to see the big story of the Kingdom. When you read like that, the patterns in Acts jump off the page: daily prayer, shared lives, radical generosity, and a church that looks nothing like our typical American schedule. Ethan challenged us with the idea that the main reason we don’t see what they saw in Acts is because we refuse to release our possessions, our time, and our calendars to Jesus.

From there, we began talking about prayer that isn’t just “Lord, here’s what I need.” We talked about how lonely it must be for God when we never move past our requests and never discover who He is. Scripture calls us to minister unto the Lord—to come before Him with worship, adoration, and surrender, not just with lists. We wrestled with the question: what happens when the answer is always “yes”? Yes with our time. Yes with our attention. Yes with our lives. As we step into this new year, we believe the Lord is calling us not just to pray to Him, but to live in a way that ministers to Him—where we lay down our entertainment, our distractions, and even good things, so we can say a costly “yes” to His presence.

David brought a powerful perspective on community and spiritual leadership. He contrasted blind leadership—like Eli, who could not see clearly and allowed corruption in the house of God—with leaders like Samuel who could hear God’s heart and obey even when appearances said otherwise. He shared how the Lord has been dealing with him about being “better for each other” and guarding his community by pointing people back to Jesus as Faithful and True. We talked about frustration in ministry and how often it flows from our own flesh, ego, and ambitions rather than from the heart of the Good Shepherd who knows the names of His sheep. All of this tied back to one simple question: What does it look like to love Jesus, love His people, and give Him everything—time, possessions, comfort—until our lives become a living prayer that ministers to the Lord?

Looking ahead to the rest of the month, this Monday and next Monday we are slated to be joined by David Coffey, Ethan Robison and Keenan Snider.

Regional Prayer: Zoom, Friday Nights & Unity Rally

Prayer is the backbone of everything we’re doing in this season. Here’s what’s coming up this week and next:

  • Tuesday – Final Zoom Prayer Call (for the month)
We’ll hold our last Zoom prayer call for this month on Tuesday at 9 PM. Anyone who wants to press in with us is welcome—if you’d like to be added to the call, just reach out and we’ll make sure you get the link.

  • This Friday – Servant Ministries (Germantown)
Our in-person Friday night prayer gathering will be hosted at:
    Servant Ministries
154 E Warren St, Germantown, OH
    10:00 PM – Midnight
We’ll worship, pray into what God is doing in our region, and continue to ask the Lord to purify His Bride from Dayton to Cincinnati.

  • Next Friday – VOR Unity Rally (Prayer-Focused Service)
Next Friday, we’re shifting gears from late-night prayer to a regional rally:
    Time: 7:30 PM
Focus: Prayer and unity in the Body of Christ
    Worship: William & Holly Highley
    Speaker: Mikey Lamb

This won’t be “just another service.” Our heart is to gather believers from across churches and streams, lift up the name of Jesus, and create a room where the priority is prayer, presence, and ministering to the Lord.

NKountr Youth Rally – Save the Date

This week we’ll begin promoting the next NKountr Youth Rally at The Kingdom, and we’d love for you to mark your calendars now.

  • Date: March 13

  • Location: The Kingdom

  • Guest Minister: Elijah Beers (from Pastor Tommy Bates’ church in Independence, Kentucky)

NKountr exists to gather youth from across Southwest Ohio into one room where Jesus is the main event—no gimmicks, just the presence of God, the Word, and a generation being called higher. Elijah carries a powerful anointing, and we’re believing for a night where students encounter the fire of God, and leave with a deeper burden for prayer and the lost.

Would you consider supporting?

If Voices of Revival has been a blessing to you, would you prayerfully consider sowing into what God is doing?

Our upcoming NKountr Youth Rally will bring in over $1,000 in expenses on its own, and previous NKountr rallies have averaged around $1,500 each. Every rally is an investment into a generation encountering Jesus, and we simply can’t do it alone.

If you’d like to help us shoulder that cost and fuel future gatherings, you can give securely here:

Thank you for standing with us—in prayer, in presence, and in generosity.
