A look back at last week’s Voices of Revival with Ben Westry

Episode 105 of Voices of Revival with guest Ben Westry is a deeply moving conversation about legacy, prayer, and the kind of leadership that raises others up instead of holding them back. Ben shares the story of his church in Manchester, Connecticut, tracing its roots from humble beginnings during the Jesus Movement of the 70s to its present-day, multi-ethnic congregation. Through seasons of unexpected loss, his church has thrived by fostering a culture where young people are trusted, trained, and given real responsibility long before they are polished. This same DNA—discipleship over spotlight, mission over platform—has carried them through the transition of leadership into a thriving, prayer-centered, mission-oriented community.

The conversation explores what true success looks like in ministry: a legacy of faithful disciples who are prepared to take the baton when the time comes, a body that welcomes the broken and messy, and a church that stays focused on prayer and the Great Commission instead of performance. From the decades-long “Prayer Tower” that once kept intercession going 24/7, to the small groups and prayer gatherings that now fuel the ministry, Ben highlights the cost and reward of staying rooted in prayer. This episode is both a challenge and an encouragement for leaders everywhere to invest in the next generation and to measure success by obedience and mission, not numbers or titles.

Top 5 Quotes from Episode 105:

  1. "If all the church has is a music department and preaching as the goal, then it becomes self-centered. It’s not the Book of Acts at all."

  2. "True success is leaving the church in good hands when we’re no longer the ones leading—faithful to the Word, culturally relevant, and still on mission."

  3. "There’s no ‘preacher Olympics’ in our ministry. The mission is center. Jesus is center."

  4. "Forty years of 24/7 prayer built the foundation of our church. You can’t launch a church on strategy alone—it has to be birthed in prayer."

  5. "We don’t want to just raise leaders; we want to launch them. And wherever God sends them, we want to be the covering that cheers them on."

I am incredibly excited about our August slate. I know I can sometimes oversell things, but hear me when I say this—I truly believe this month’s lineup is one of the most important we’ve ever had. I want to ask every one of our newsletter readers to cover this upcoming month in prayer.

In particular, I want to draw special attention to the final episode of the month, Episode 114, featuring Caleb Ingram, Mark Burd, and Angelina Misyukovets. Voices of Revival has always been a unity endeavor, and these three leaders embody that heart. Caleb leads Declare Dayton, Mark oversees Revive Ohio, and Angelina spearheads Cincy 4 the Gospel. They are giants in the work of bringing the Body of Christ together.

As they sit down together for this conversation, I am praying that the Father weaves their hearts as one. For years, these leaders have been asking, “What would it look like if the Church truly came together?” Now we get to ask an even deeper question: What happens when those who have been laboring for unity come together themselves in unity?

I want to double down on this request—please be in prayer for the entire August slate, and pray specifically for Episode 114. Pray for it daily as we lead up to that night.

A look at last week’s Tuesday Night Discipleship Call

This weekly discipleship group for young men exists to raise up the next generation of Christian leaders through a deep study of Scripture, prayer, and accountability. This week’s session focused on John 14–16 and Acts 1, exploring the person and work of the Holy Spirit—how He speaks what He hears from the Father, glorifies Jesus, empowers believers, and calls us to be witnesses starting in our cities and expanding outward to the nations. The group discussed the gift of tongues as a holy exchange between God and man.

The session also highlighted Acts 1:8, challenging each participant to see their own city as their “Jerusalem” and to carry the gospel outward in ever-expanding circles of influence. Members reflected on the purpose of the Spirit’s power, the call to communion with God, and personal prayer requests. The evening concluded with heartfelt prayer for each other, for boldness to walk in the fullness of the Spirit, and for God’s will to be done in and through the group as they grow together as leaders.

Top 5 Powerful Quotes:

  1. “The Holy Spirit speaks what He has first heard from the Father—when you pray in tongues, it’s Him speaking through you what He’s already heard in heaven, back to the Father.”

  2. “We’ve sold ourselves short—Acts 1:8 shows the entry-level goal of the Holy Spirit is not just your church, but your city.”

  3. “The gifts of the Spirit are not random manifestations; they are heaven being translated into earthly reality so that Jesus is glorified.”

  4. “Before God ever spoke creation into being, the Spirit of God was already present and moving—and that same Spirit now dwells inside of us.”

  5. “The power of the Holy Spirit is not just for us to feel blessed; it’s for the transformation of our city, our nation, and ultimately the world.”

Update on the 31 part intensive on the topic of prayer

Our 31 part teaching series on the topic of Prayer fell heavy behind schedule over this past week. The project will be back on track this week and will be completed by the end of the week.

Weekly word from Keenan Snider

We’re giving Keenan a well-deserved week off! Keenan is part of the leadership team for Cincy 4 the Gospel, and they just wrapped up an incredible week of ministry during their annual Flood Week. Over the course of the week, more than 60 people came to know the Father.

I had the privilege of being at the final rally on Saturday night—I would guess there was 600 - 700 young people gathered, and Keenan had the opportunity to share the Gospel with all of them. It was a beautiful night.

Please join us in praying for Cincy 4 the Gospel in the coming weeks. The season after such a powerful move of God is crucial. Let’s ask the Lord to give them rest, refreshing, and clarity for the next steps as they continue to labor for His Kingdom.

“Pile of Stones” — A Revival & Discipleship Intensive

We’re excited to officially announce a brand-new initiative happening at the end of August. On August 29th & 30th, Voices of Revival has been invited to partner with Temple of Praise Church in Miamisburg, Ohio to host a Revival and Discipleship Intensive focused on the topic of prayer.

Here’s the speaker lineup for the weekend:

Friday, 7 PMBradley Higgins
Saturday, 10 AMDavid PinterThe Prayer Life of Jesus
Saturday, 11 AMMisty ShotwellIntercession
Saturday, 12 PMKeenan SniderHearing God
Saturday, 7 PMMikey Lamb

The theme “Pile of Stones” is drawn from the imagery of Old Testament altars. When Elijah erected a stone altar and prayed, God answered by fire. When Solomon did the same, God answered by fire.

Today, we no longer build physical altars or offer burnt sacrifices. Instead, we present ourselves as living sacrifices. In the Upper Room, 120 believers gathered in one accord, offering themselves in prayer—and again, God answered by fire.

An idea in it’s infancy

All the reports right now point to something remarkable: Gen Z and Gen Alpha are open to God in a way we’ve never seen before. Everywhere I look, churches are reaping a harvest. I keep hearing story after story of mass salvations—and if the data is accurate, it seems this is only going to grow.

But it makes me stop and wonder: are we making the most of what we’re seeing? Mass salvations demand mass discipleship. And the truth is, the American Church has not done discipleship well. We’ve built everything around Sunday services. Discipleship is messy, and we like things neat and clean.

When our 31-part prayer intensive wraps up, we’ll have two major teaching series available to anyone at any time: a 28-part series on the Holy Spirit and a 31-part series on prayer. Developing resources like these will remain a priority. Looking ahead, one of the next big undertakings will likely be an 8-week course designed specifically for new believers. Unlike previous resources (which have been simple YouTube playlists), I envision this as a structured e-course. To be honest, I have no idea how to build one yet—but we’ll figure it out.

Here are my initial thoughts on the weekly focuses for this course, designed to walk someone through what it looks like to follow Jesus as seen in the New Testament:

Week 1 – Sermon on the Mount
Week 2 – The Gospel of John
Week 3 – The Great Commission
Week 4 – The Holy Spirit
Week 5 – Acts
Week 6 – 1 Corinthians
Week 7 – Prayer
Week 8 – Scripture

These are early-stage thoughts, and this project probably won’t launch for months. But I believe developing intentional resources for new believers will be a major focus in the days ahead.

How to support

If you would consider financially supporting these efforts, know that even a small gift can go a long way. Below, you'll find several ways to give.

Additionally, during the upcoming “Pile of Stones” event, we will receive offerings during the Friday and Saturday night services. We would love to have you join us in person—and if you’re able to attend, we ask that you prayerfully consider sowing into what God is doing.

Thank you for standing with us in faith.
